It seems nowadays everyone is a Japanoholic, and we can’t blame them. Think about how many times you’ve heard someone say they want to visit Japan this year! People have this universal craving to go because it’s a completely different way of life over there, and 9 times out of 10, it looks nothing like your current surroundings back home.
But you can save yourself the 14-hour flight and visit Japan right here in London! There are so many Japanese businesses and cultural institutions to explore across the city. Here are three recommendations we believe can truly transport you to Japan.
A silent corner for Ceramics, Matcha & Tea - Keiko Uchida
Nestled in the heart of Notting Hill, on the corner of Talbot Road, sits Keiko Uchida. A shop which specialises in traditional Japanese pottery and Premium Matcha products. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner Kieko, herself. When filming our Hanami Cherry Blossom series (which you can watch here!).
She was so heartwarming and welcoming and guided us through the premium matcha powders she had on display. Keiko was born in Tokyo and after decades of practicing and teaching the Japanese Tea Ceremony, she became a renowned Tea Master and now shares her passion with anyone who wants to learn.
Kieko also hosts tea ceremony workshops, which are a great way to immerse yourself in Japanese culture and feel like a little traditional retreat in the middle of London.

A portal into Japan where modern meets traditional artistry- Japan House
There is a high chance, anybody from Japan who lives in London, has been to Japan House. One second, you’re on Kensington High Street, and the next you’re walking through an exhibition that makes you feel like you’re in the centre of Tokyo.
It opened in 2018 as part of the global mission led by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to encourage a deeper appreciation and understanding for Japan through art, craftsmanship, design, technology and just everyday living. Spread across three floors, it features free exhibitions, a curated shop filled with Japanese products, and regular events ranging from workshops to talks and screenings.
This space feels calm, it’s beautifully designed, and it’s easy to explore, making it a great stop whether you’re already interested in Japan or just curious to learn more. From contemporary art and architecture to traditional crafts and cuisine, Japan House blends old and new Japan in a way that feels welcoming rather than overwhelming. Watch our video here, when we explored it for ourselves and tried their Matcha.

The Only Konbini in London!
Of course, we highly recommend visiting Shoryu Konbini (biased, we know!). But we wouldn’t recommend our Japanese mini mart if we didn’t genuinely believe it was worth the hype (which it 1000% is!)
Tucked away in Stratford Westfield (opposite Waitrose, as we like to tell everyone!) Our Konbini is packed with Japanese snacks, groceries, bakery items, and fresh sushi made by hand every day. You'll also find endless drinks, an entire row dedicated to ramen noodles, and all the sauces, seasonings, and condiments you’d discover in Japan.
We also have a hot food deli counter serving ramen, gyoza, bento boxes, sandos, curries, rice bowls, tempura, and hot skewers. And while we could spend all day listing everything we offer, it’s our friendly Konbini team that truly makes the experience. If you find yourself in Stratford, be sure to stop by and say hello!

Japanese Trinket HEAVEN!
Ok, if you love and adore stationery, scrapbooking, and displaying trinkets in your home, then you need to run to Sway Edit in Shoreditch. It happens to be located directly across the road from our restaurant (which makes for the perfect excuse to visit us for ramen afterwards!)
Our team came across this store one afternoon, and it was game over once we discovered their stationery and homeware sections. They have a wide variety of Japanese lifestyle products, artisanal items, and authentic matcha. Tucked in the corner is their own matcha and sake bar, where they prepare authentic Japanese drinks right in front of you!
A Taste of Ginza in Piccadilly
Situated in the heart of Piccadilly, K. Minamoto is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop specialising in ‘Wagashi.’ Made from ingredients such as rice, fruit, wheat, and beans, these delicate sweets are known for both their taste and their beautiful, delicate presentation.
Founded over 80 years ago, K. Minamoto's stunning window displays change and reflect with the seasons and Japanese holidays throughout the year. We visited during our Cherry Blossom series and loved seeing all the Hanami-inspired sweets and displays on offer!

Japan really is on your doorstep!
So if Japan has been calling your name lately, consider this your sign to start exploring closer to home. London might just surprise you with how easily it can transport you there.
